I started investing in 2011.

Like many investors, I learned my first lesson by losing money on my first stock market trade. Thanks to that mistake, I realized that in order to invest successfully, I first needed to invest in my financial education.

In 2012, I took my first investing course at the Madrid Stock Exchange, where I built a structured understanding of financial products. Then I sought further training with professional fund managers, learning about market cycles, investment strategy, asset selection, and perhaps most importantly, how they managed risk and preserved capital throughout every stage of the economic cycle.

Coming from an engineering background, I am used to making decisions based on data and risk mitigation strategies, and that’s the approach I bring to investing.

In 2021, after nearly a decade of actively managing my investment portfolio, I decided it was time to diversify further by adding real estate. However, with a demanding corporate career, I had limited time and wasn’t interested in spending my free time dealing with tenants, maintenance issues, and the many challenges that come with actively managing rental properties.

That’s when I discovered U.S. multifamily real estate or, as we call it in Europe, Build-to-Rent. I realized I could invest in institutional-grade assets that generated cash flow from day one, offered long-term appreciation, provided a natural hedge against inflation, and required no tenant management. I also recognized that this asset class had a low correlation with the stock market, which was exactly what my portfolio needed.

Since 2022, I have analyzed numerous investment opportunities, reviewing profit and loss statements, conducting sensitivity analyses, and building business plans that I have presented to sponsors.

That process allowed me to build direct relationships with proven multifamily operators at scale in the U.S. market, with whom I now collaborate to bring qualified investors into institutional-grade deals.

My experience as an investor, combined with the analytical skills I have developed, allows me not only to select better opportunities, but also to explain both their potential and their risks with clarity.

I created The BTR Investor to share foundational education about multifamily real estate and provide a structured, analytical perspective for those considering diversification into this asset class.

If you’re exploring multifamily investing and want to understand whether it aligns with your goals and risk profile, I invite you to explore the resources on this site.
